Bobby Jindal: "I have the job I want"

Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal told Harry Smith of CBS back in July of 2008 that Senator John McCain would not ask him to join the GOP ticket despite swirling rumors to the contrary. McCain visited the state shortly thereafter.

Despite repeated denials by both Jindal and McCain that McCain asked him to be his running mate, it increasingly appears now that McCain may in fact have tabbed Jindal as his first-choice for VP, but failed to persuade Jindal to join the ticket.

McCain made numerous visits to Louisiana during the vetting process. This is noteworthy because Louisiana was never in play during the election. This begs the question of why McCain would put so much time and energy traveling to a state where he enjoyed a comfortable lead throughout if not to try to convince Jindal to join the ticket.

I suspect Jindal was asked to be McCain's running mate, and declined the offer several times. I think Jindal knew it was most likely going to be a losing campaign, and that his political career would suffer a blow as a result. Admittedly, I have no proof of this, and my evidence is circumstantial at best. That said, compare the man in the video clip to the person who ultimately became the VP pick, and try to tell me with a straight face that John McCain would have gone the way he did if Jindal was willing to do it.
